Deck Removal Before a New Patio in Thurmont
A repeat customer in Thurmont wanted an old deck gone so a concrete patio could go in where it stood.
What was asked
In April 2024 the owner asked for an estimate to demolish the deck and haul away the debris, along with some front-yard work. James (Jay) King was already working in Thurmont that week, so he stopped by in person and sent prices for each part afterward.
He went ahead with the yard work first and held the deck back on purpose: he didn't want the deck gone and the backyard left as a mud pit before a patio contractor was booked. That was the right call. Once the concrete contractor was lined up and said he could start as soon as the deck was gone, the owner and James set the date.
What we did
The owners moved everything they wanted to keep off the deck and to the side, and left the gate unlocked, since they were traveling. Everything else was ours to take apart and haul. Partway through, the owner asked us to take off the wood but leave the bolts in place, so the builder doing the new wooden stairs could decide whether to reuse them. We left them. All the lumber and the debris from underneath the deck went out on our truck.
How it ended
The deck came out in May 2024 and the patio went in after it. In June the owner sent photos of the new patio and had us back to power wash the house and add dirt and seed around the new patio's edges.
